Heading

Good legal writing is divided and subdivided using headings. Headings serve two purposes. First, they break long, complex material into more-easily digested pieces. Second, headings function as signposts that guide your reader through your prose. 

Headings should be (1) structural (using traditional outline form); descriptive (case names usually are unhelpful); (3) independent (so a reader who skips a heading does not become lost); and (4) consistent in content, grammatical structure, and typography.
